DOORHEAD INTERVIEW CONDUCTED BY NOT YET REMEMBERED RECORDS 2023

NYR: There’s a mystique about you that reveals nothing but your moniker and releases to back it. Your email responses show up at EXACTLY midnight any time we correspond…this is the kind of mystery I wish I would have had the discipline to maintain if I could keep a better handle on my Twitter account. Any particular reasoning behind your staying behind the public curtain for your music?

DH: I'm just a lowkey guy, I don't really want the attention, just want it to be about the music. When you put a face to something it can sometimes shift the attention over to the person rather than the creation.

NYR: For the collection of tunes you’ve submitted to us for release after we reached out, you run the gambit of melodic IDM, frenetic (and damn near industrial) drill n bass and other hybrid genres that fit together perfectly for an aggressive, yet well-rounded album. Were these orphaned track from other projects or music created fresh for NYR?

DH: They're just tracks that stood out to me at the time, I make tracks with no album or larger project in mind most of the time. All the tracks on this are pretty spread out in terms of creation date, oldest track on the ep being lu2.Unexplained Emotions (being made in may 2022).

NYR: There’s a certain level of DSP trickery going on with some of these tunes that make me wondering if you’re dabbling with (or deep diving into) MAX/MSP. Can you divulge? Because this program and its language is foreign to me aside from being able to recognize the sound.

DH: I do use Max but not to make full tracks (yet), I use ableton in tandem with Max for mostly sound design. Max is such a bottomless pit of a software that it's definitely gonna take me a bit to get a better grasp on it.

NYR: I’m AMAZED that no one else had picked you up yet based on your output. Well-structured, SOLID experimental electronic music. Right up our street here at NYR. What’s your musical background and what turned you on to electronics?

DH: music has always been a part of my life, I remember when I was younger I would randomly pick up on melody or rhythm and it would just repeat in my head almost indefinitely. I started making music when I was about 13 but stopped because my ipad ran out of space lmao, at the time I really wanted to hear music that was fast and had more of a focus on drums/rhythm but never knew it existed until I discovered the Rubber Johnny short film/music video from Chris Cunningham and Aphex which pretty much confirmed to me that that type of music did exist. I started to make music consistently again in late 2019/early 2022 but it was more ambient vaporwave type stuff.

NYR: Do you see yourself looking to collaborate with labels more in the future, or do you prefer to remain self-contained?

DH: Yea probably, I'll mostly just be self releasing singles though until a full album and/or another ep gets compiled.

NYR: Thanks for fielding these questions! Looking forward to getting this record out there. I have a feeling our diehard electronic fans are going to eat this up. Best of luck, break a leg and bonne chance!

DH: Np! Thank you for having me :)
